Keith Snyder

Small Press Magazine says:

Show Control is the tale of a cynical electronic musician, Jason Keltner, who gets involved in the murder of a young electronic music/erotic performance artist in an attempt to escape the reality of his impending divorce. Throw in two friends who double as sidekicks, along with several assorted bad and not so bad guys, plus a mystery freelance G-man, and the result is an entertaining first novel from Keith Snyder.

A musician and audio technician himself, Snyder mixes in plenty of sophisticated and non-sophisticated technology ranging from the internet and E-mail to an ad-hoc propane flame thrower, to help move a slightly complicated, yet not overwhelming, plot along.

Where Show Control really sparkles is in its dialogue. Jason Keltner and his buddies banter with an almost Chandler-ish quality through much of the novel. Their dialogue is crisp, cryptic, and humorously cynical and well rooted in 90's American culture. Snyder uses his expertise in electronic music technology to great advantage in Show Control, but it is the interplay between characters that makes this novel notable.

"Robert leaned in toward Delahugh, squinted at him, and grated, 'Always. Always watch your back.' He pointed meaningfully. 'This ain't the Girl Scouts.' Then he said in a Groucho voice, 'Which is a shame, because I could really use a box of Savannahs.'"
