The Dick

Call me Mac. I'm a gumshoe. I think maybe I'm the best in the business.
Picture of Mac
I had that feeling I get just before a case, and I don't mean a case of rye or a case
of jaundice, I mean a real case, the tough kind, the kind that rattles you all
upside-down like one of those crazy carnival rides held together by bobby pins
and a three-day-old stick of chewing gum.

The Dame

It wasn't a big surprise when Violet Broadstreet walked out of the gloom and into my life.

The Deadbeat

Picture of Mac with a bum

...Stretch said for four bits, he'd tell me who the culprit was. He told me it was
my mother. I wanted to believe him, but it just didn't fit. He told me he'd give me
more information for another two bits, but by that time, I was as broke and tired
as a toy balloon doing the 50-yard dash against a flock of razor birds.
